The EU-China Environmental Business Facilitation Conference

The EU-China Environmental Business Facilitation Conference on CDM and Bioenergy was held in Beijing on 12 June 2009. It is the second business facilitation conference under the EU-China CDM Facilitation Project after the first one in Cologne, Germany. The conference was organised by the project consortium, with support from the EC Delegation to China, the Czech Embassy in China representing the European Presidency, the Department of Climate Change of the NDRC and the EUCCC. The conference provided a platform to exchange European and Chinese experiences and expertise of the technologies and CDM development of the biogas, biomass energy and landfill gas sectors, and to explore the business opportunities for the private sector with a view to facilitating greater cooperation. High-level officials from the EU and China, including the Ambassador of the Embassy of Czech Republic in China, His Excellency Mr. H.E. Vitezslav Greplm, the Councillor of the Department of Climate Change of the NDRC, Mr. Gao Guangsheng, and Mr. Magnus Gislev, the First Secretary (Environment) at the Delegation of the European Commission to China spoke on the Conference. The CDM and bioenergy experts, including Ms. Li Liyan from the Department of Climate Change of the NDRC, as well as European biotechnology companies, presented the latest trends of bioenergy technologies and CDM project cooperation and development. Around 240 participants including leading business representatives of international CDM buyers, consultants, project owners, regional CDM centers, and other relevant stakeholders attended the Conference and exchanged views and information. The Conference received highly positive evaluation from the attendees and a large volume of media coverage. A conference report, including evaluation and media coverage, is available on the project website.
